About me
I am Tom Schotman, a carpenter from the Netherlands. I started out with a van and a toolbox, driving to jobs all over the Netherlands. I built sheds, stables, pergolas, interior carpentry, whatever needed building.
Then I chose to focus fully on timber framed structures, and for that I went to Latvia to work with the Northmen Guild. I spent years building traditional timber frame houses that were cut in Latvia and shipped worldwide, and teaching on their timber framing courses. That is where I perfected my skills and learned to do this trade properly: layout, scribing, mortise and tenon joinery, hand tools first, machines where they earn their place. I am still a partner working with the Northmen Guild.
In June 2026 I taught a six day timber framing course in Brande, Denmark. Shortly after, my wife Karin and I moved to the Ikast-Brande area with our daughter Ylva and our three border collies. Denmark is home now.
I am also a qualified electrician. That comes in useful more often than you would think, especially on garden structures with lighting and sockets.
If you are planning a timber frame house, an annex, or something for the garden, get in touch by email or WhatsApp. I work throughout Denmark.
